Zircotec have developed a range of ultra-high performance plasma-sprayed ceramic coatings to protect components from the effects of fire, heat, wear, abrasion and corrosion. The main product offerings are Thermohold® plasma-sprayed ceramic coatings and ZircoFlex® flexible ceramic heat-shield material.

Our ceramic coating is highly effective when used on engine exhaust system components including exhaust manifolds, exhaust headers, cat boxes, turbochargers and tail pipes, helping to protect sensitive components from the effects of heat. As an exhaust coating they reduce under bonnet temperatures, increase engine performance, help solve engine packaging issues, and improve engine compartment safety. Based on our proprietary Thermohold® formulation, our ceramic coating range can only be applied by Zircotec. The coatings are plasma-sprayed onto the substrate in two stages. Firstly, a nickel-based bond coat is applied followed by a zirconia-based top coat effectively welding the ceramic material to the substrate material. The overall thickness is about 350microns.Our ceramic coatings have been proven to:

o Reduce underbonnet temperatures by up to 50oC (122oF), as independently measured & confirmed by DAMAX Race Engineering.
o Reduce surface temperatures by 33%.
o Increase engine performance, eg. a 30oC drop in intake air temperature can deliver a 6% increase in power, or can increase engine efficiency leading to less fuel usage.
o Extend the life of vulnerable components and thereby enhance engine reliability.

The main Thermohold® product ranges are exhaust coatings for performance and classic cars, motorsport and motorcycles, industrial coatings and coatings for composites.

Our plasma sprayed ceramic coatings are used on a range of performance cars, delivering performance gain and heat reduction from a range of great looking finishes.

Our coatings are formulated to reduce the impact of unwanted heat; protecting the life and appearance of under bonnet components by significantly reducing exhaust and engine bay temperatures whilst also improving engine performance and reliability. Modern fuels can generate additional heat causing carburetor fuel evaporation problems. Our ceramic coatings have been shown to eliminate hot-start fuel evaporation for a range of cars. With a range of colours to choose from, our coatings can be used to provide and maintain that factory finish appearance. In most cases our warranty period is 3 years even when we apply our coating to used systems

Our products are in widespread use at all levels of motorsport including F1, NASCAR, World Rally and Le Mans. We have been trusted suppliers to both F1 and World Rally since 1996 and since the 2011 season our products have been used by almost the entire F1 grid. Our key product offerings to motorsport are:

A range of thermal barrier exhaust coatings to help manage engine compartment temperatures and prevent sensitive components from being damaged by heat.

Turbocharger coatings to reduce heat loss and increase responsiveness by allowing the turbocharger to spool up more quickly.

Coatings for carbon composite, glass fibre and plastic components to provide protection against heat, fire, wear, abrasion, stone chips, tyre rubber. etc. Our products allow these lightweight materials to be used in applications where they would otherwise be unsuitable.

We also provide electrically conductive coatings for EMC protection.


*Performance White® This is an ultra-high performance coating, ideal for motorsport and performance applications. Reduces surface temperature by ~33%. Suitable for applications up to 1400degC

*Performance Colours® This offers the performance of white but with a range of 14 colours available

*Primary Black® This is our entry-level offering. It reduces surface temperature by ~25% and is available in black only. In the case of motorsport use and our Primary Black® coating the warranty period is limited to 1 year).

Zircotec’s ceramic coating material can be applied equally well to new & used exhaust system components, and to most metals, composites and some plastics.

Our Endurance® Range is a smooth thermal barrier ceramic based coating which is used by some of the top motorcycle manufactures, including Ducati’s Diavel Carbon bike. We have also worked with Moto2 race team (MarcVDS) who have tested our coating on a number of high mileage road bikes. They chose our Endurance Range due to its durable surface finish which has been specifically designed for motorcycle exhaust systems.

Our Endurance Range coating:

o Has a robust ‘fit and forget’ policy as the coating protects components against corrosion and stone chips.

o Looks fantastic providing an incredibly smart and professional appearance.

o Reduces exhaust surfaces temperatures by ~33%.

o Reduces heat loss from the manifold.

o Reduces heat soak.

o Rapidly cools the exhaust when there engine is turned off. The surface temperature of the coating drops quickly when the engine is off.

o Improves engine performance and reliability.

o Provides protections for vulnerable components located close to the exhaust

o Is smoother to the touch and easier to keep clean


• Endurance Graphite® (an attractive matt grey finish). This coating is ideal for a wide range of road bike applications. Combining modern day looks with a slightly classic appearance, this coating looks fantastic on most road bike applications.

• Endurance Metallic Black® (incorporates an attractive metallic look). This coating is our preferred choice for a more modern look. Its metallic finish looks superb on most modern road bike applications.

• Endurance Black® (a solid matt black finish). Although less forgiving of dirt and finger marks than the other two coatings in the range, this is a classic matt black finish that looks absolutely fantastic on the right bike.

Our Endurance coatings come with a 3 year warranty period for road use irrespective of whether the underlying system is new or used. Track or competition use is not covered by warranty.

Our Performance Diesel® coating meets the needs of plant machinery, trucks, marine engines and static diesel engines such as generators where performance is more critical than aesthetics.

• Reduces surface temperature by ~30%. A Large mining company recorded a 45% surface temp. reduction.

• Suitable for applications up to 1400degC

Anti-wear coatings for industry:

We supply ceramic and metallic coatings for the protection of vulnerable parts against abrasion and wear . These coatings can eliminate the need for masking components used in polishing processes etc.

Coatings for composites:

With industry increasingly looking to use composites to meet stringent efficiency and weight targets, Zircotec has developed technology to enable its use, even in high-temperature applications. Refined plasm-sprayed coatings offer a wide range of benefits including:

o Protection against heat and fire – our Zirconia-based thermal barrier coatings protect against radiant heat or hot gas significantly reducing surface temperatures to protect carbon composite against delamination and resin melt.

o Protection against wear, abrasion and physical damage – we supply metallic coatings to OEMs that greatly enhance the durability of composites, allowing use in areas previously deemed unsuitable. A protective top layer of titanium, molybdenum, stainless steel, aluminium or nickel is applied

o Precision application – The carefully controlled process also allows concentration in specific areas, to increase heat protection around specific bodywork hot spots, or to add strength to a panel exactly where it’s needed most.

o High resistance to vibration and material flex using our unique ThermoHold® technology ensures a robust bond capable of surpassing OEM quality and durability standards.

o Electrically-conductive coating to provide Radio Frequency (RF) and Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) shielding for carbon composite components, allowing more widespread use of the lightweight material in OEM auto electric applications.

o Electrical insulation with a highly effective insulation coating that electrically isolates the substrate from its surroundings. A multilayer process that is ideal for EMC suppression on electrical and electronic applications such as ECUs, wiring looms and antennae.
